10 Important Things to Know About a Boudoir Photoshoot

Boudoir photoshoots are all the rage and there are lots of good reasons for that! Are you wondering if one of these fun and empowering sessions might be for you? Be sure to choose the right photographer for you (I'll write another blog post about that) and you'll have a great experience. Here's what you need to know:

1) There's a photographer who will shoot exactly the kind of boudoir you want. Boudoir photographers come in all flavors, from super edgy to very tame and everything in between. Choose a photographer whose style is right for you so you can be as edgy or as sweet as you like. We describe our style as "classy, sexy" which means sexy and gorgeous, but not TOO sexy if you know what we mean ;)

2) You get to decide if you want a male or female photographer. You may also want to consider if you want your photographer's team to be male or female. We are an all female team, and our clients love it!

3) You are in charge of how much skin you show. A talented and experienced boudoir photographer will never try to push you beyond what you're comfortable with and will have a lot of options for sexy images that show very little if that's what you prefer. We offer white sheet sessions (think Marilyn Monroe) that don't show anything a bathing suit wouldn't, strategically draped fabric, lingerie and even beautiful and tasteful fine art nudes. You get to choose what you want to do.

4) You can choose to do images that show your face or anonymous images where only the people who know you the best would be able to identify you ;) 

5) A reputable photographer will never post your images on social media without your permission. Work with someone you trust and you won't have to worry.

6) Photographer's typically store client images for a year or more, in case you want more images or lose yours. Boudoir images require an extra layer of security - consider whether or not you want your photographer to store you images in the cloud. Many of the best photographers store images on hard drives rather than in the cloud to prevent a possible security breach.

7) If you don't have anything to wear your photographer may offer wardrobe. We've got so many gorgeous options it's hard to decide!

8) Gone are the days of only doing a boudoir session strictly as a gift for a partner. Women are doing these sessions as a gift for themselves ... we get to own our gorgeousness at any age, size, color or shape! We have 70 year old women doing these photoshoots and they own it!

9) You are going to be nervous and that's totally normal. A good photographer will take the time to get to know and do some planning before your session even happens, so you will know who you're working with and what to expect. You'll still be a bit nervous, but you'll be surprised how much fun you'll have once you get started!

10) You will have the opportunity to see yourself through the eyes of your photographer. Be forewarned, a boudoir photoshoot might cause you to love your body!
